nomacorc®

nomacorc®
Manufactured with an innovative, proprietary co-extrusion process, nomacorc offers you the greatest flexibility when bottling your wines or spirits.

Its ease of extraction, reseal ability, natural aroma and wood grain appearance make it especially attractive.

Consistency
nomacorcs® are manufactured using consistency-based technology. The nomacorc proprietary extrusion technology maintains constant processing conditions throughout the course of production. This technology is the fundamental building block for quality and performance. In addition, all manufacturing equipment is designed specifically for the creation of Nomacorcs. All materials are FDA compliant and must meet specific Nomacorc requirements.

The wine and spirits industry has two major concerns today, TCA and Random Oxidation. TCA (taint) is a naturally occurring component of bark cork, thus it is not a component in any of the materials used to produce nomacorcs. Random oxidation occurs due to imperfections in a closure. This can occur in bark corks due to the natural variation in the growth patterns due to environmental conditions, insect damage and storage conditions. Random oxidation can occur in other synthetic closures due to a manufacturing technology and process conditions which affect the consistency of the cell structure of the closure. An examination of internal cell structure provides an immediate visual confirmation of the consistency of Nomacorc when compared to other synthetic closures. Using consistency-based technology, Nomacorcs provide a very consistent barrier to oxygen transmission resulting in a predictable shelf life based on the type of wine and initial SO2 levels.

Wine Industry
nomacorc® wine closures have been such a success that they fly under the media radar. Having sold more than a billion wine closures to wineries large and small, they have become the synthetic closure of choice - World-Wide.

Our technology allows you to customize these closures depending on your specifications and marketing needs. We offer various options for both color and density. Pictured here is our standard nomacorc®
classic.

Spirits Industry
nomacorc® Toppers are new to our line-up of products. With more than ten-million ordered nearly a week after launching this product, they are made with the same materials as our traditional wine closure making them a perfect option to what is currently available in the market.

nomacorc® closure features.

nomacorc® is a highly elastic, polymer-based, medium density, chemically inert, co-extruded still wine closure. It's technically engineered to be used with all automatic four-segment sliding jaw type corking equipment and formulated to meet the critical performance standards of the wine industry.
  • No off-flavors, breakage or disintegration
  • Consistent bottle insertions and clean processing
  • Excellent long-term bottle seal without leakage
  • Neck-up or neck-down storage after bottling after 24 hours
  • Traditional look and feel
  • Smooth and moderate extractions
  • Inorganic materials incapable of sustaining TCA or "cork taint"
  • No sterilization needed as this is an inert surface
Foam – How to make good foam?
  • Constant controlled melt temperature
  • Constant controlled pressure
  • Consistent pore size and density
Foam co-extrusion (e.g.: nomacorc)
  • Nomacorc utilizes a patented two-step co-extrusion process
  • Processing temperatures and pressures remain constant
  • Controlled cell growth results in foam consisting of evenly dispersed cells
  • Cell walls and cell size are uniform and predictable
  • Facilitates usage of different skin material from core material
  • Process creates controllable O2 evaporation protection
  • nomacorc's offer the closest performance to traditional corks without the possibility of cork taint or random oxidation
Issues relating to injection molded closures (non nomacorc).

  • Processing temperatures cycle from hot to cold
  • Pressure varies greatly - even within one small batch
  • Results in large variation in cell size and cell dispersion
  • Foam looks like Swiss cheese
  • Restricts material options for optimizing performance characteristics
  • Process is NOT consistent in O2 evaporation protection
  • No guaranteed protection from random oxidation
  • Extraction forces are greater
  • Much harder to insert in bottles with your corker

The Manufacturing Process

Quality Control From Raw Material to Delivery

Nomacorc constantly monitors all aspects of production from raw materials, through production, packing and shipping of all nomacorc products. The company hires independent professionals and works with its vendors and distributors to better understand any possible sources of contamination and to ensure preventative measures are taken that maintain contaminant free product.

Nomacorc uses sealed packaging bags (laminated structure of Polyethylene and Nylon) that are 50 times more resistant to air permeation; strict specifications for the transportation and distribution of products; and audits its logistics partners to ensure Nomacorc’s demanding specifications for clean, sensory neutral and contaminant free environment.

The company has taken these steps in order to assure its customers that to the greatest degree possible Nomacorc products are absent of elements that could affect the quality of closures in the delivery chain. These standards are imposed across the entire industry as part of Nomacorc’s global quality control process, in which expansion is combined with rigorous service maintained at its optimum level.

Nomacorc exceeds food industry regulations, has improved raw materials for better sensorial performance, and implemented a worldwide sensory control program. Nomacorc’s sensory manager works with independent laboratories around the world to improve overall performance and now provides individual traceability for each closure in the world market. The single objective is overall quality control and total transparency for customers.
