Spooky Pumpkin Ale

Just in time for Halloween, here's a spooky, mildly spiced ale to sip while you're scaring the trick-or-treaters that come to your door. Gomez and Morticia would be proud!

Ingredients

Procedure

  1. Crack your grains and place them in a grain bag.
  2. Add grain bag to 8 litres of cold water in a 12 litre (or larger) pot. Bring to a boil and immediately remove grains.
  3. Take the pot off the heat and add honey and pumpkin purée. Stir thoroughly to dissolve and return to heat.
  4. When mixture boils add 14g (half the package) of Cascade hops, all the spices and the Irish moss. Boil for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat, add the remaining 14g (other half package) of Cascade hops and steep for 5 minutes.
  6. Cool and use the liquid to make up the 23 liter volume of the kit.
  7. You should add an extra 2 litres (25 litres in total) of water to your primary fermenter to allow for the amount of pumpkin residue left behind at first racking. Do not forget to add Package #1!
  8. Add your yeast to your primary fermenter.
From this point, follow the Brew House instructions for secondary fermentation.
